I saw Chronicle this evening

In short: it was entertaining, but utterly predictable.

I know that found-footage movies have to bend believability all the time in order to keep characters filming after the point that anyone in reality would have stopped, but Chronicle has some of the most obscenely contrived “this scene is being filmed” scenes of any movies of this style that I’ve seen*.  Normally I’m able to look the other way on that aspect because for me the found-footage aspect can be very effective, but this time was just too much…And it just kept getting worse and worse as it built toward the climax.

Also the acting wasn’t so great.

But otherwise “The movie didn’t totally put me off.” — Me.  For the poster.

* And I’m not even talking about the “floating camera” trick.  If you see the movie you’ll know what I mean.

Two For The Money?
One For 60% Of The Money?

I think I’ll be opting for None For None Of The Money.

I swear these are Parliament-Funkadelic lyrics.

On the list of 9 I see three I feel like really deserve it, three I haven’t seen, and three that for me range from just fine to I didn’t like.

One of the ones I haven’t seen I have no plans to see, based on the trailer, the fact that it got only two nominations total, and the rotten tomatometer score, which I thought would be an indication of something but what the hell do I know. I’m not naming any names.

Let this sink in

Academy Award nominees Jonah Hill, Kristen Wiig, Amy Mumolo, Melissa McCarthy, Bret McKenzie, Jim Rash, and Nat Faxon.

The craziest part is that they all earned it…
